Nick Poullis was born in Henley-on-Thames in 1974. He has been a professional artist since leaving the University of East Anglia gaining a BA(Hons) illustration. He is a previous Baker Tilly Award winning artist at the Royal Watercolour Society, where he has regularly shown his work. Nick has exhibited in a number of the London Societies including the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours, the Royal Society of British Artists and also the Sunday Times Watercolour competition. He has held many highly successful exhibitions in Henley-on-Thames, Broadway, Amersham, Reigate and Central London. Nick has also held joint shows with some of the most highly regarded painters working today, including Peter Kelly RBA NEAC and Bruce Yardley. In 1994 he was elected Associate Member of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, the youngest ever. Nick has work included in the collections of St Johns College, Cambridge University, Baker Tilly Chartered accountants, the Royal Air Force and many private collections. Nick illustrated Hugh Montgomery's award winning classic children's book The Voyage of the Arctic Tern published by Walker books in the UK, USA and Australia. He writes regurlarly for The Artist magazine. Always painting on site has meant that Nick has travelled extensively throughout Europe while exploring subject matter. In recent years he produced work on the root and cyclists of the Tour de France and also on the theme of places of cultural significance across the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy and southern France. The Art of Nick Poullis, a catalogue of his work with a forward by Ken Howard OBE RA, was published in 2009. Within the book Nick explains some of the very personal themes that have developed in his work and the inspiration behind some of the paintings. |
