Zenkers Diverticulum

Zenkerīs diverticulum is an outpouching of the pharyngeal wall in the pharyngo-oesophageal region, probably most often resulting from motor abnormalities in this region.

Zenkerīs diverticulum is easily visualised by an X-ray-examination. Endoscopy may be difficult, the patient cannot easily swallow the endoscope, and Zenkerīs diverticulum is one of the reasons for the very rare complications - perforation - during endoscopy. Zenkerīs diverticulum is treated surgically.
