Endoscopy

 

Endoscopy provides vital information in the management of Oesophageal disease. 

In carcinoma it is often the method of choice for obtaining tissue for histological confirmation of carcinoma, confirming the distance form the incisors and assessing mucosal spread and response to chemo or radiotherapy. In addition it is used to assess disease recurrence and in the management of Oesophageal strictures post operatively

In reflux disease it is useful for confirming the diagnosis and grading the severity

scoring system
